Hand-sewn buttons, organza, embroidery floss

2023

My client asked that we dedicate this commission to her late husband. To do that, we used his favorite color, blue, for the buttons and incorporated her first initial (S) and her husband’s (G) in the upper part of the design. The number 5 also appears for their family; the title Chamesh means five in Hebrew. At the bottom of the piece, if you look in the yellow area, you will see a row of four mismatched buttons. These are the buttons her grandchildren picked out in remembrance of their grandfather.
